A warm bath is sometimes what you need after you’ve had a stressful week, and you’re in dire need of some relaxation. We’ve got you with this quick and easy bath recipe that will help to relieve your soreness and promote balance. As an added bonus, this recovery bath is easy to make with ingredients you likely already have in your home. Get started, go!
Recipe:
Fill a bathtub with hot water and add the following ingredients:
- 2 cups of Epsom Salt (magnesium sulfate)
- 10 drops of lavender oil
Instructions:
Soak for 20 – 30 minutes in the hot recovery bath water. Your body will start to sweat in the tub so it is important to drink plenty of water while you soak. If you get light-headed easily, be cautious when getting out of the tub, or have someone nearby to help you out the first time you take a recovery bath. Take a lukewarm to cool shower after soaking to rinse off the salts and prevent itching. Make sure to rest for at least 30 minutes after the bath.
The benefits of the recovery bath include:
Epsom Salt:
- Helps increase circulation and improves nerve functions throughout the body
- Reduces inflammation which helps relieve pain and muscle cramps.
- Enhanced sleep through the effects of the hot bath and magnesium.
Lavender Essential Oil:
- Promotes relaxation of your nervous system and reduces inflammation.
- It may help promote sleep and fight insomnia. When we sleep, blood flow to our muscles increases, bringing extra amounts of oxygen and nutrients to facilitate muscle healing and growth, and enhance muscle recovery.
- Can help prevent or ease migraine headaches.
Hot Water:
- Increases circulation and heart rate, which serves as a form of passive exercise.
- Increases heart rate variability, a sign of a healthy nervous system and reduces stress.
- Increases sweating and elimination of toxins.
Now that you have this recipe, all you need to do is to gather your ingredients and give yourself the relaxation that you truly deserve.
