Recovering from injuries can be a painful and time-consuming pursuit, and we aim to help our patients heal as quickly and functionally as possible so they can get back to their daily life. One of the way’s our chiropractors do this is with Low Level Laser Therapy. Below Dr. Neeta Basra explores the benefits of laser therapy and how it gets her back to enjoying life, time and time again.

Laser Therapy is a safe, non-invasive therapy that promotes and accelerates healing in joints, muscles and soft tissue that have been injured or experience chronic inflammation.

Laser Therapy is an effective tool in pain management and healing after muscular or ligamentous strain/sprain type of injuries and soft tissue trauma from an accident and sports. Laser Therapy is also effective in relieving the pain and inflammation associated with arthritis, tendinitis, bursitis, and surgery.

The physiological effects of Laser Therapy include a reduction in the inflammation which leads to less pain felt and an acceleration in tissue healing. This acceleration in healing occurs by helping your body progress through the stages of inflammation more effectively, thus reduction the time you are injured.

My first experience with Laser Therapy was when I unfortunately tore a ligament in my knee skiing a few years ago. My knee was swollen and weight-bearing was very painful. I used a laser machine on myself 3 times a week for a period of 4 weeks and found it to be of tremendous help. My inflammation was reduced significantly, and I was weight-bearing without pain within the week. I felt my recovery was much quicker with the use of the laser.

Over the years, in addition to helping hundreds of patients get back to the activities they love faster and with less pain, I personally have found Laser Therapy to be a great tool in aiding in my recovery from injuries big and small. I often use it for minor stains that occur while playing sports or those one-off mishaps that occur from just living life. When used in conjunction with routine chiropractic care, I find I get better quicker and am back to my regular activities in no time with the aid of the Laser.

Treatments are 15 to 30 minutes in length and can be combined with chiropractic adjustments and other soft tissue and manual therapy.  Your chiropractor can recommend a combination of treatment that is right for your recovery goals.
